PromptSmart helps creators write and record videos using a teleprompter. However, as AI writing tools became increasingly popular, users frequently left the platform to generate scripts elsewhere before returning only to record.
To solve this workflow gap, I led the design of ScriptBuddy, an AI-powered writing assistant that brings ideation, script generation, and editing directly into the PromptSmart ecosystem across mobile, desktop, and enterprise platforms.
My role covered the entire product design process — from user research and workflow mapping to interaction design, prototyping, and implementation support.
Goal: Create a frictionless AI-powered content creation workflow that helps users move from idea to recording without leaving the platform.

Users frequently experienced writer's block, struggling to turn ideas into structured scripts.
At the same time, many creators were leaving PromptSmart to generate content in tools like ChatGPT before returning only to record. This fragmented workflow reduced engagement within the platform and created unnecessary friction in the content creation process.
The challenge wasn't adding AI to PromptSmart. The challenge was keeping creators inside the workflow from idea to recording.

Understanding the problem before designing the solution.
Before exploring interfaces, I needed to understand why users were leaving PromptSmart during the content creation process and what role AI should play within the ecosystem.
I combined user interviews, competitive analysis, product analytics, and rapid prototyping to identify the biggest sources of friction and validate potential solutions.

Creators didn't leave PromptSmart because they wanted another tool. They left because they needed help getting started.
Research revealed three recurring patterns:
These insights became the foundation for the final experience.

Separate generation from editing
User testing revealed that conversational interfaces work well for ideation but become increasingly difficult for editing longer scripts.
Instead of forcing both tasks into the same interface, I separated the workflow into two distinct stages:
This reduced cognitive load and made reviewing AI-generated content significantly easier.
Make previous conversations instantly accessible
Generated scripts quickly became valuable content assets. Rather than moving users to a separate history page, I introduced an on-demand history drawer that allows creators to revisit previous sessions without interrupting their current workflow.
Turn waiting into feedback
AI generation introduces unavoidable delays. Instead of showing a generic loading spinner, I designed contextual loading states that communicated progress and reinforced user confidence during the generation process.

PromptSmart previously owned the recording experience. After ScriptBuddy, it became part of the entire content creation journey.
